A man has been left in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted outside a public house in west Dublin late on Sunday night.
The victim suffered a blow to the head outside the Clonsilla Inn just before 11pm.
The man, who is in his 40s, sustained life-threatening injuries in what gardaí believe was a so-called one-punch attack. Though he was receiving emergency treatment in hospital in the city on Monday, they are grave concerns for his recovery prospects.
Gardaí investigating the attack have appealed for witnesses to the “serious assault”, which they said occurred outside a licensed premises on Clonsilla Road, Clonsilla, Dublin 15.

Gardaí have arrested a man, in his 20s, who was being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He can be questioned for up to 24 hours without charge.
Gardaí have issued an appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the pub at the time of the incident to come forward.
